Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
The believer is not to conform to the world, think like the world, act like the world, or regard the world as the measurement of any truth whatsoever. For the world, and all that is in it, is evil and exists antithetical to God. There is none righteous apart from Christ. For Christ is our King; He is our aim, He is the One to whom all things are drawn until all His enemies are placed under His feet as a footstool.
If we do not keep this truth central in our thinking, we will be tossed around like the waves on the sea and will believe whatever we hear. Our aim should be Christ alone, and the truth of how we live our lives is Scripture alone. As believers, we accept this by faith alone, realizing it is only by God’s grace alone, to the glory of God alone. These alones are the creeds of the truth that hold us fast. They anchor our hearts to the objective truth of Scripture in Christ.
This is battle, then, of the heart and the mind. Though the believer is completely justified before the living God, he is now at odds with the world. We are to daily, moment by moment, take every thought captive and test it before the objective word of our King. We are to look at the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of our hearts and place them at the foot of the cross, that we discern what we do, not according to the world’s standards, but against that which is the Word of God. For it is only the Word of our God and nothing else that is good and acceptable and perfect.
Hebrews 1:13, James 1:6
Father, Your Word is true! I praise You, for You have given us Your Word and it is pleasing to my soul. You have opened my heart; You have poured out Your love. You have given me a standard and have given Your Holy Spirit to me to seek and know You with all my heart. Please open my eyes to the sin in my heart, that I may turn from my sin and walk according to Your ways. Lead me, Lord, for the sake of Christ and Christ alone. In Christ’s name I ask this. Amen
