1 Chronicles 15:26
And because God helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
The ark of the covenant was not a heavy object the Levites carried to Jerusalem, for it contained the tablets of the Law given to Moses by God for God’s people.
Yet, we see how the author of Chronicles acknowledged that even in this little act, the only reason the Levites could accomplish it was with God’s help. This is an acknowledgment of God’s providence in our everyday life. Apart from God we can do nothing.
We are to depend, seek, and acknowledge God in all circumstances. We are to trust Him in all we do and offer up to Him thanksgiving in every circumstance. By acknowledging His presence, His providence, His blessing in every circumstance, we acknowledge our humanity and depravity and live a life under the full dependence of our God. We will either reflect self-lordship or lordship under a sovereign, holy, and righteous God. For Scripture says even when we lie down at night, the only reason we awake in the morning is because the God of the universe sustains us in our sleep.
Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights. The ability to see color; the ability to know things of beauty; the ability to accomplish what He has ordained for the day; and the ability to walk, talk, and understand language are all gifts from the Lord. We depend upon our God for all things, and our thanksgiving and praise should be in direct proportion to our acknowledgment of His greatness and our complete dependence upon Him.
John 15:5, Psalm 41:3, James 1:17
Father, how great You are, and how majestic is Your name in all the earth. In You, I live and move and have my being. Even the ability to write out my prayers and to come before You is a gift from You. The ability to wake in the morning is not a right I have because I am human, but a grace I have been given because of Your greatness. Praise You, Lord. Forgive me for my lack of gratitude and for the temptation to believe I am autonomous from Your grace. Lead me according to Your will. Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil. For Christ’s sake. Amen
