John 11:16
So Thomas, called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”
As Jesus went to raise Lazarus from the dead, He told the disciples that Lazarus was dead. They were going to see a dead man.
Not only that, but people sought to put Jesus to death. To the extent that Christ walked around in public, the likelihood that death would occur was high.
Thomas looked at the situation not in light of who Christ is but by what he perceived with his human eyes. Instead of repenting the unbelieving thought, he voiced that thought to those around him.
This unbelief was sin, and by voicing it aloud, he caused those around him to agree with him, and therefore to sin as well. For none of it was true in light of the very Word of God leading them.
Oh Father, how I so easily sin. I whine and complain, I fear and tremble, and yet I open my mouth and tell others what to fear rather than trusting in You. Forgive me! Help me to walk in the truth of who You are! In Jesus’ name, Amen
