Deuteronomy 15:10
You shall give to him freely, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because for this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake.
Everything we have comes from the Lord. What He gives us are blessings He bestows upon His people. He is not begrudging but freely gives to everyone and to all.
The Lord commands His people to reflect to others what the Lord does and gives in our lives. We are to give our time, talent, and resources, all for the glory of God. “Whether we are at home or away, our aim is to please Him.”
When we have a wrong view of the blessings from the Lord, we turn them into idols, ceasing to give and serve and bless others. When our hearts harden toward God, we pridefully believe we bless our-selves rather than all things coming from Him.
This command is not without a promise. The more we are willing to surrender what the Lord gives to us for His glory, the more He will bless us in all our work and undertakings. As we serve the Lord, He blesses our work. Beautifully and gloriously, the more He blesses, the more we can give back for His glory and His pleasure and our good.
2 Corinthians 5:9, Romans 11:36
Father, You give us our daily bread. You are the Provider of all things. It is You who should be our aim and our focus. Forgive me. Lord, will You bless me in proportion to the way You would call me to bless others? I confess the many times I’ve been leery of asking for Your blessing, for I do not want to be blinded by idols. Yet, I ask that You bless my work and the vocation You have given me, that I may bless others more richly for Your Kingdom. In Christ’s name. Amen
